About the Author Jacob Abbott (1803–1879) was a native of the state of Maine who was a professor of mathematics and natural philosophy, a minister, and founder of two schools (the Mount Vernon School for Young Ladies in Boston and the Mount Vernon School for Boys, in New York City). He wrote more than 180 books and became famous for his easy-to-read style of historical storytelling, stripped of the dry dustiness which characterized other texts.

The recipes for bread can be made in 1 1/2 or two pound size which I think is great because I sometime don't want such a large loaf. The result was a patent fight, which proved expensive to Armstrong, and ultimately led to his suicide.

American Marconi was the US branch of the Italian Marconi firm. Johnson's photographs also seem to deal with form, by emphasizing lighting, line, and mass, but without caring what the content is. I liked the way how he is honest and truthful.I expected more about the freedom struggles. That's the tone of the book.

The book is a fast read. The ending felt a bit too easy and some questions remain, but there is hinted at another series that will be written and will take place in this universe, so I am excited about that and hope it ties up some of the lose ends.
